Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in his last meeting with the Chief Minister of the state, had assured that there would be no shortage of funds for providing tap water to every household in Uttar Pradesh under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’.

New Delhi. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the central government has announced an allocation of Rs 10,870 crore for Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2019-20, this amount of grant to Uttar Pradesh was Rs 1,206 crore, which was increased to Rs 2,571 crore in 2020-21. Thus, the central grant received by Uttar Pradesh under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ this year is four times more as compared to last year.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in his last meeting with the Chief Minister of the state, had assured that there would be no shortage of funds for providing tap water to every household in Uttar Pradesh under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’. According to the official information released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, 78 lakh piped water connections have been provided in UP this year to start work in 60,000 villages.

The Center is pushing for supply of tap water to 177 arsenic and fluoride affected habitations this year. There are 2.63 crore houses in 97 thousand villages in Uttar Pradesh, of which 30.04 lakh (11.3%) houses now have tap water supply.

In the last 21 months, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the state has supplied tap water to 24.89 lakh (9.45%) households. Despite this, about 2.33 crore households in Uttar Pradesh have no tap water. During the last review meeting, the UP CM has assured that the state will ensure supply of tap water to every household by 2024 as announced by the PM.
