Amid controversy over yoga guru Ramdev’s remarks on allopathy and doctors, the head of the government-run All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has said that the hospital has helped at least 600 Covid patients by implementing both the methods of medicine. has been successfully treated. Patients with mild to moderate symptoms are provided treatment at a COVID health center in a central government-run institution. According to the Delhi government’s ‘Delhi Corona’ app, the hospital currently has 47 oxygen beds, all of which are empty.

200 bedded referral hospital

The All India Institute of Ayurveda was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2017. He said that out of 600 patients, around 200 were admitted during the second wave. He said, ‘The best thing is that Ayurveda and Allopathy are here together. Whether ayurvedic or allopathic, the treatment is guided by tests done in laboratories.’

Professor Nesari said, ‘We do not give any medicine blindly. We closely monitor every case. It is a modern hospital. We have pathology and radiology laboratories. We do CT scan, CRP and D-dimer test regularly. Nesari has previously served as the CEO of the National Medicinal Plant Board.

He said that the doctors of Ayurveda and Allopathy jointly decide which patient needs what kind of treatment. In mild cases, both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are used. Professor Nesari said, ‘First of all, we give Ayurvedic treatment along with oxygen therapy. If the patient’s condition does not improve, we take the help of allopathy, which includes the use of steroids etc. as per ICMR guidelines.

The institute has 40 Ayurveda doctors and five allopathic doctors. The hospital also has an ICU. Doctors at AIIMS and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital provide online consultation when required.
