Former IAS officer Anup Chandra Pandey (IAS officer (retired) Anup Chandra Pandey) was appointed as the Election Commissioner of India.
New Delhi. Former Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Anup Chandra Pandey (IAS (retired) Anup Chandra Pandey) was appointed as the Election Commissioner of India on Tuesday. The Legislative Department of the Law Ministry said that the President has appointed Pandey, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1984 batch, as the Election Commissioner.
Sunil Arora’s tenure as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ended on April 12. Since then one post of Election Commissioner was vacant. Sushil Chandra is the CEC, while Rajiv Kumar is the other Election Commissioner.
While issuing the notification, the government said that Pandey has been appointed as Election Commissioner from the date of his taking over. The notification states that – ‘In compliance with clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution, the President appoints IAS Anoop Chandra Pandey (Retd.) (UP: 1984) as Election Commissioner.’ (with language input)
