For the first time in Gujarat, six cases of ‘Kappa’ variant of corona virus have been reported. This information was given by the state health department on Saturday. The department issued a press release and said that three cases have come up in Jamnagar, two in Godhra in Panchmahal district and one in Mehsana district. The World Health Organization named the new mutant “kappa” in May.

The department said that genome sequencing of samples of these patients infected with Kovid-19 between March and June this year revealed that they are infected with the new variant. The statement said that according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), kappa is a “variant of interest” and not a “variant of concern”.
