Pacer Chetan Sakariya has been selected in the Indian team for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka starting July 13. Opener Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team. Apart from Chetan, there are five such players on this tour who can be seen in the blue jersey for the first time.
New Delhi. Left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakariya has been included in Team India for the tour of Sri Lanka. In the first half of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL-2021), Chetan impressed a lot with his bowling. Chetan’s father, who represented Rajasthan Royals, had recently died due to the deadly corona virus. Recalling his father, Chetan said that he would have been very happy if he had seen him in Team India’s jersey.
On the tour of Sri Lanka, the Indian team has to play 3 ODIs and as many T20 matches. For this, the BCCI announced the team on Thursday. There are six such young players in this team, who have not played for India yet. Chetan Sakaria is also a part of this team whose captaincy has been handed over to opener Shikhar Dhawan. In the IPL auction, Chetan was bought by the Rajasthan franchise for a substantial amount of 1.2 crores. Chetan had lost his younger brother before the IPL, while his father died of Corona after the postponement of IPL-14.

23-year-old Chetan, who hails from Gujarat, dedicated his late father to being selected in Team India. He said in an interview to the Indian Express, ‘I wish my father was in this world to see all this. He wanted me to play for India. I miss them a lot. God has shown me many ups and downs in the last one year. This journey has been very emotional for me. I lost my younger brother, I got IPL contract only after a month but my father passed away only last month. Now I have been selected in the Indian team.’ He said, ‘When my father’s condition was critical, I stayed with him in the hospital for a week. This loss can never be compensated. This is for my late father and my mother, who gave permission to play cricket. Chetan is currently sharpening his bowling edge at the MRF Pace Foundation.
The first ODI series will be played between India and Sri Lanka, the first match will be played on July 13, the second ODI will be played on 16 and the third match will be played on 18 July. The T20 series will start from July 21, with the second match being played on 23 and the third T20 on July 25. All matches will be played at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
